Think through the communities unintended consequences and the damage it has caused Sedonans. <\/p>\n\n\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 27px;letter-spacing: 0px;text-transform: None;, sans-serif;font-weight: Normal;line-height: 40px\" class=\"ub_advanced_heading wp-block-ub-advanced-heading\" id=\"ub-advanced-heading-b4f5ef95-cff4-4e63-9b3e-ff3396df00fe\" data-blockid=\"b4f5ef95-cff4-4e63-9b3e-ff3396df00fe\">Arizona&#8217;s Complex Tourism Policy and the history of public policy in Sedona<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>For over two decades, I studied Arizona&#8217;s Tourism Policy, additionally spoke to the Sedona City Council and city management about the City&#8217;s Tourism program. <strong>The city policy had a conflict of interest as the city-taxes was funded a regional membership group, the Sedona Chamber of Commerce.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having a business and seeing city-imposed tax dollars be given to a private special interest group that competed with the businesses inside the city changed the landscape of Sedona, it caused so much harm, hinder, hurt the Sedona citizens and stakeholders. These actions over marketed Sedona causing the housing issues while promoting short-term rentals. It increased traffic, day trippers and created grid lock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2012, I started doing research on destination marketing and tourism programs as I couldn&#8217;t comprehend, and I didn&#8217;t agree with the ridiculousness policy the city was implementing. It was unlike any other city in the world. It discriminated against the city businesses, residents and empowered a special interest group with millions of taxpayer&#8217;s monies without any contract that protected the people&#8217;s assets. No controlled spending. They non-tourism including investors, realtors, pollical PACS, Churches, non-hospitality businesses, competition outside of the city, wasting tourism marketing dollars. Th is included marketing the Chamber CEO husband who was a realtor.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Sedona Chamber and Lodging businesses started in 2012 to pitch funding.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>City Council was given by me benchmark comparisons on tourism programs in Arizona along with the Sedona Chamber&#8217;s Membership distribution and chamber members disqualifications them. Chamber members were not exclusive to &#8220;Tourism&#8221;, a direct violation for &#8220;tourism bureaus&#8221;. Many Others in Sedona spoke up, including Eddie Maddock, Jean Janks, and Henry Twombly. It all fell on deaf ears. <br>City council claimed they knew better. They gave the special interest groups the only voice on the matter. Some even claiming that it was a pass-through tax, indicating that it was a &#8220;Wesselhoff&#8221; chamber tax. The City were fools and approved this horrific policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many were ridiculed for over twenty years, I even got sued to shut me up. I did more research, infographics and fine-tuned the correct way that Arizona governments run their tourism programs. I shared it with city council. The Arizona Office of Tourism sets the policy for the state. Please not that this is a city tax, and not all businesses pay city-imposed taxes.
