ICLEI is a democratic organization led by the ICLEI Council and the Global Executive Committee (GexCom), two groups of local leaders elected by ICLEI Members every three years. The ICLEI Council is formed by the nine Regional Executive Committees (RexCom), elected by Members in each ICLEI region.

The Mayor’s Climate Network is part of ICLEI Sustainability – Local Governments Organization motion.
“BY SIGNING ON, CITIES INDICATE THAT THEY ARE PURSUING ACTIONS TO ACHIEVE AN EMISSIONS REDUCTION TARGET THROUGH:
- Developing a community Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory
- Setting near- and long-term targets to reduce emissions
- Developing a Climate Action Plan aligned with the city’s targets.”
So it is not a simple membership. It is a city membership and a commitment to the above.
Who Approved this membership?
I went through every City Council meeting notes and couldn’t find any meeting that approved it. I then listen to hundreds of videos hoping it was a clerical error with no luck. I really didn’t want to bother staff, I’m not fond of not being able to find things at all. But I eventually put in a request for information on the City’s membership. David does a great job for the City of Sedona and got me all the documents he could find.
Since this issue was so odd I sent an email to Councilwoman Holli Ploog on August 31, 2022. August 30, 2022 was a meeting on Mayor’s Climate Network. A dear friend was ill in the hospital I needed to go pick up her furry one and care for him while she was in Hospital.
