VOTE NO on Home Rule 2023
Remember how the city raised the bed tax gave it to the regional Chamber?
2013 The city raised city bed tax to market Sedona via the regional Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber pretended to be a DMO. See benchmark. The Chamber received 55% of city-bed-tax to promote a private regional membership that was not Tourism and did not qualify. They marketed to investors
In 2017, the Sedona City Council approved a new “Sunset” half-cent sales tax with a vote of 6-1. This revenue was earmarked to fund approximately $35 million in traffic mitigation construction over the following decade. In 2021, the City Council transitioned this sunset tax into a permanent sales tax increase.
Higher taxes lead to big government and government overreach.
Without home rule, we can reduce both.
Remember when city council lied and said the bed tax is a passthrough tax for the Chamber? The chamber and their members PAC campaigned for Home Rule in a war mode.
